Despite loss of freedom under house arrest, Galileo dedicated his time to one of his finest works, Two New Sciences. In this masterpiece, he summarized work he had done some forty years earlier, on the two sciences now called kinematics and strength of materials. The book was initially published in Holland to avoid the censor. As a result of this work, Galileo is called the "father of modern physics”. No matter how much we have lost, as long as the faith exists, in the end, we will still find where our hearts belong.
The black ebony is the universe, in honor of Galileo - the watcher of the sky. The diamonds are the stars that consist of the Great Bear. The pendant of three pearls symbolizes the moon phases, in memory of Galileo’s discovery of the mountains and craters on the moon. The stone on the upper right side is Galileo, himself, a shining star in the universe who saw beyond what other human beings could see.
The necklace is not only the new universe discovered throughout Galileo’s life, but also the universe of a revolutionary spirit, who dares to challenge the status quo and embrace a future of possibilities.
Materials: 18kt gold, oxidized silver, ebony, moonstone, fancy diamonds, fresh pearl. Handmade in Florence, Italy.
