We might look foolish, when we start doubting what is regarded as common sense. But sometimes being foolish is great wisdom in disguise.
In the early 17th century, when it was commonly believed that the moon was translucent and perfect sphere, an “eternal pearl to magnificently ascend into the heavenly empyrian” as put forth by Dante, Galileo used his artistic training and knowledge of light contrast to interpret the patterns of light and shadow on the moon as lunar mountains and craters.
Galileo’s new interpretation was regarded as “foolish” when it didn’t fit into the common belief at that time. But it was his “foolishness” that unveiled the authentic look of the moon that we know today.
The asymmetrical earrings are handmade by Italian sculptor to carve the rough topographical feature of the moon. With one convex and the other concave, together they can be merged into a full moon, which represents the full understanding of the moon through Galileo’s “foolish” interpretation. May the “foolish” earrings dance around your ears into a symphony of wisdom.
